
Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3rd, 1962 in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant, as well as mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), a contestant on the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. Athena is his younger sister. She is also a drummer. Lee was two years old when his father relocated the family to California. He also got his first drumsticks when he turned four. He also received his first drum set at sixteen. To pursue a career in musician and performer, he quit highschool and joined the L.A. nightclub band Suite 19. He listened to Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Cheap Trick while a teen. John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge and Alex Van Halen were his main drumming inspirations. Terry Bozzio has also been a significant influence.
