Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009, while she was still at University. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to feminism.
